Peregrine Technologies is an AI-enabled platform company backed by leading Silicon Valley investors that helps public safety organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions address critical challenges with unprecedented speed and accuracy. The platform transforms siloed and disconnected data into operational intelligence, surfacing mission-critical information to empower faster, better decisions. Peregrine currently supports hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, serving more than 125 million people.
You will join the new AI team as a Staff Software Engineer, instrumental in delivering differentiated value through generative AI-powered features. Your scope includes crafting powerful, intuitive user experiences powered by AI—whether through natural language commands or AI agents handling complex tasks. You'll work on scaling the platform to handle terabytes of data from diverse sources, efficiently querying and notifying users in real-time, and optimizing search algorithms for fast results.
The technical stack includes Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, and Kafka on the backend; React, Redux, and Mapbox on the frontend; PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch for data storage; machine learning models hosted in Bedrock and SageMaker; and AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes for infrastructure.
You will take full ownership of major features, collaborating closely with other engineers, the deployment team, and end users to iterate and solve real-world problems. The engineering culture emphasizes empathy, ownership, collaboration, humility, and perseverance. You'll have the opportunity to work onsite to understand the variety of use cases Peregrine serves and see how people interact with the product.
Required: 8+ years of cross-functional software development experience, CS degree or equivalent, proven track record shipping production-grade software components, strong distributed systems architecture knowledge, and modern software development best practices. Bonus: experience with generative AI, LLMs applied to user experience, and open-source contributions. Must be located in NYC and open to working in office.
