SmithRx is a venture-backed healthtech company disrupting the Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) sector with a next-generation drug acquisition platform. The company has onboarded hundreds of thousands of members since 2016 and is focused on lowering healthcare costs through technology and innovation.
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Drug Access team within Application Engineering, you will design, build, test, and maintain backend systems that manage first-party and third-party drug data. This is a high-impact individual contributor role requiring deep technical expertise and leadership across the engineering lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop backend features using Golang, GraphQL, Node.js, and SQL
- Architect scalable APIs and database schemas, with expertise in PostgreSQL
- Leverage AWS services (Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, RDS) for distributed systems
- Provide technical design documentation and scope estimates for complex features
- Perform production triage, root-cause analysis, and mitigation planning
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and technical guidance
- Collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to define requirements
- Contribute to roadmap strategy and technical vision with senior leadership
- Champion best practices, testing, automation, and modern development tools
- Explore and integrate AI/GenAI tools to improve delivery speed and quality
You will need 8-12 years of professional software development experience, ideally at high-growth startups or midsize tech companies. Strong expertise in compiled languages (Go preferred), relational databases, API design, GraphQL, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS is essential. A BS or advanced degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience is required.
