Salary: USD 188,000 - 230,000 / annual
SpotOn is a restaurant technology company providing point-of-sale systems and AI-powered profit tools to independent restaurants. As a Staff Android Software Engineer, you will be a technical leader and multiplier responsible for the Android-native POS and handheld applications that power daily operations for thousands of restaurants.
You will define the multi-year architectural roadmap for Android applications, ensuring offline-first capabilities and real-time data syncing remain reliable and scalable. This is a hands-on Staff IC role where you will write production code, lead design reviews, guide architecture decisions, and mentor Senior and Mid-level engineers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and driving technical strategy for Android applications, with focus on offline-first workflows, local data persistence (Room/SQLite), and modern UI frameworks like Jetpack Compose
- Leading high-impact cross-functional technical initiatives spanning multiple squads
- Owning stability and performance of the hospitality suite, designing resilient systems for 24/7 commercial kitchen environments
- Mentoring engineers and setting standards for code quality, documentation, and automated testing
- Partnering with Product, Design, and leadership to align technical investments with business outcomes
- Improving developer productivity through CI/CD, automated testing, and responsible AI-assisted engineering tools
Required qualifications include 10+ years of professional software engineering with significant Android experience at scale, deep Kotlin expertise (coroutines, Flow, structured concurrency), proven ability to design and evolve large multi-module Android applications, and strong understanding of Android architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture). You should have experience with complex local data management, offline-first workflows, and the ability to diagnose performance and reliability issues across application, OS, hardware, and network layers.
Preferred experience includes building POS, hospitality, retail, or operationally critical software; integrating with payment SDKs and device services; mobile observability tools; and improving testing and CI/CD for mobile teams.
