Salary: USD 188,000 - 230,000 / annual
SpotOn is a restaurant technology company providing point-of-sale systems and AI-powered profit tools to independent restaurants. As a Staff Android Software Engineer in the Hospitality group, you will serve as a technical leader and multiplier for the systems powering daily operations across thousands of restaurants.
You will oversee the technical direction of SpotOn's Android-native POS and handheld applications, ensuring they are resilient, performant, and capable of handling complex hospitality workflows including order processing and payment processor integrations. This is a hands-on Staff IC role where you will write production code, lead design reviews, guide architecture, and create leverage through mentorship and cross-team execution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and drive the multi-year architectural roadmap for Android applications, ensuring offline-first capabilities and real-time data syncing remain reliable and scalable
- Lead high-impact technical projects spanning multiple squads, such as codebase modularization, local data persistence optimization (Room/SQLite), and UI layer overhauls with Jetpack Compose
- Own stability and performance of the hospitality suite, designing systems resilient to 24/7 commercial kitchen environments
- Mentor Senior and Mid-level engineers, setting standards for code quality, documentation, and automated testing
- Partner with Product, Design, and leadership to evaluate feasibility, shape roadmap decisions, and align technical investments with customer outcomes
- Improve developer productivity by partnering with enablement teams on CI/CD, automated testing, failure analysis, and AI-assisted engineering tools
Required qualifications include 10+ years of professional software engineering with significant Android development at scale, demonstrated Staff Engineer scope or equivalent technical leadership, deep Kotlin expertise (coroutines, Flow, structured concurrency), experience modernizing legacy Android architectures, proven track record designing large multi-module Android applications, strong understanding of Android architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture), experience with complex local data management and offline-first workflows, ability to diagnose complex performance and reliability issues, track record leading technical initiatives across teams, and strong communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include experience building POS, hospitality, retail, or payments software; integrating with payment SDKs and device services; mobile observability tools; and improving CI/CD and developer productivity for mobile teams.
