Archer is a leader in advanced air mobility, building an end-to-end platform delivering air taxis, unmanned aircraft systems, and AI-powered aviation solutions for commercial aerospace and defense sectors. The AI Products Org—a ~100-person software team within a larger aerospace engineering company—builds consumer software for general aviation.
As Staff Android Engineer, you will own the Android app of a mature, production consumer product that has been featured in app stores and has a real daily user base. The iOS and Android apps maintain close feature parity, with Android occasionally leading in certain areas. You will drive new features, refinements, and ensure both platforms evolve together.
Key responsibilities:
- Own the full Android app lifecycle: new features, refinements, Play Store releases, crash triage, and performance optimization across the long tail of Android hardware
- Make constant parity-vs-platform-convention decisions and defend your reasoning
- Read Swift regularly and coordinate closely with the iOS team to maintain alignment
- Work on adjacent projects (mobile, web apps, internal tools) as opportunities arise across the org
- Develop using AI-assisted tools as the default; the team uses Claude Code daily and expects fluency with agentic coding tools
- Operate comfortably with ambiguity in a fast-moving, early-stage product environment
The role sits within a 100-person org expecting substantial growth over the next year. You'll have real resources and momentum while working on products that are early but shipping and actively used.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, primarily on user-facing client software shipped in the Play Store
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science
- Solid Kotlin experience and enough Compose knowledge to have informed opinions
- Real 0→1 product experience: you've built the first version of something, not just contributed to an established codebase
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to move forward without fully scoped programs
Bonus qualifications:
- Swift writing ability (not just reading)
- Web frontend experience (React or similar)
- Full-stack development background
- Shipped in regulated or safety-adjacent industries with understanding of how that shapes engineering culture
