Arketa is building an operating system for modern fitness and wellness, enabling studios and wellness entrepreneurs to manage and scale hybrid businesses. The company has raised $15M in Series A funding and is growing rapidly.
You'll join a small, senior, fully distributed engineering team as a Staff Software Engineer focused on AI products and platform modernization. This is a permanent individual contributor role with no management track.
Your primary responsibilities include:
- Build customer-facing AI products that help studio owners automate operations and grow their businesses
- Develop agentic loops and workflows that improve the product, codebase, internal systems, and customer delivery
- Modernize core architecture components and establish patterns for AI-powered development across the team
- Simplify infrastructure and operations to enable faster shipping for both human and agent engineers
- Improve operational rigor through observability, alerting, and incident response systems
- Contribute across the full stack (TypeScript, Node, NestJS, React, Postgres) shipping features daily
- Mentor mid and junior engineers and partner with leadership on technical direction
- Be accountable for team output and how you help the organization deliver more
The team operates with high autonomy and minimal process: customer requests Monday, built Tuesday, shipped Wednesday, feedback by Friday. You'll have direct partnership with engineering leaders on technical strategy and will set patterns others adopt.
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience (evidence valued over years)
- Full-stack contributor with deep expertise in at least one area
- Fluent and comfortable in JavaScript and TypeScript
- AI-native: actively use AI tooling daily and build agentic workflows, evals, and automation
- Demonstrated impact beyond a single team at organizations of 20+ engineers
- Track record leading successful migrations
- Systems design expertise in reliability, observability, alerting, incident response
- History of technical leadership through code review, pairing, mentorship, and pattern-setting
- Strong product judgment for scoping ambiguous problems pragmatically
- Comfortable with high autonomy and low-process environments
Bonus: personal interest in wellness/fitness, experience building for entrepreneurs or small business owners, exposure to both established and high-growth startup environments.
