Plaid is building an AI-first company and seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the newly formed Intelligent Tooling team. This team is establishing the technical foundations, operating model, and internal platforms that embed AI deeply into Plaid's coding tools, internal systems, and software development lifecycle. In this hands-on role with significant ownership, you will design, build, and operate internal systems that directly impact how engineers across Plaid work. You'll integrate AI-powered tools and workflows into core engineering processes, improve reliability and usability of existing internal platforms, and own systems end-to-end including production support and iterative improvement. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and building internal tools and services used by Plaid's engineering organization - Integrating AI-powered tools and workflows into core engineering processes - Improving reliability, usability, and performance of existing internal platforms - Owning systems end-to-end, including production support and iterative improvement - Collaborating with teammates and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions - Setting technical direction for major areas of the Intelligent Tooling surface and mentoring other engineers You should have 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of building developer tooling, internal platforms, or infrastructure. Experience developing AI systems, automation, or agentic workflows is essential, as is hands-on experience using AI-powered developer tools. Strong problem-solving, collaboration skills, and a track record of setting technical direction and leading through influence are required. Nice-to-have qualifications include familiarity with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, or observability tooling, and strong interest in leveraging AI to improve developer productivity and engineering velocity.
