ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical design, architecture, and execution of an internal developer platform and AI-driven automation infrastructure. This role focuses entirely on internal engineering workflows—service scaffolding, CI/CD automation, and developer-facing tooling—rather than customer-facing products.
You will architect AI-augmented developer tools that accelerate software delivery across the engineering organization. Key responsibilities include designing multi-agent automation systems and LLM orchestration using frameworks like LangGraph, creating domain-specific languages and finite state machine abstractions to model complex workflows, and implementing near real-time memory and session management for persistent state across developer tools and internal APIs.
The role requires building resilient distributed systems using Redis for state management, Kafka for event streaming, and custom dead letter queue bridges for message reliability. You will establish AI guardrails and governance practices, including prompt engineering best practices, hallucination reduction, and strict logging standards to protect sensitive platform data. You'll instrument microservices telemetry using sidecar patterns and automated health checks to feed Datadog dashboards.
Beyond hands-on development, you will provide technical leadership and mentorship to mid-level engineers, establish architectural patterns across the platform, and partner closely with SRE, security, and core infrastructure teams to create an integrated, high-velocity development ecosystem. This is a full-time, in-office role requiring five days per week in Mountain View, CA.
