Vanilla is an AI-powered estate planning platform modernizing wealth transfer and advisory services. The company seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead AI application development, combining machine learning expertise with production-grade software engineering.
You will architect and build applied AI applications leveraging large language models (LLMs) to solve real estate planning workflows. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll own the full stack: designing ML pipelines, building microservices to ingest and process structured data, implementing RAG systems for LLM optimization, and deploying AI infrastructure at scale.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing AI applications using OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar LLM providers
- Building production microservices and data pipelines to extract, transform, and load information from disparate sources
- Developing ML tooling for model training, evaluation, inference serving, monitoring, and alerting
- Implementing AI observability and evaluation frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph)
- Collaborating with product, engineering, and subject matter experts to identify innovative AI use cases
- Optimizing LLM performance through techniques like RAG, chunking, and fine-tuning
- Building agentic workflows and decision frameworks
You'll need 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in modern languages (Python, JavaScript, Go, Rust), microservices architecture, and production ML systems. Strong understanding of LLM orchestration, AI infrastructure best practices, and the ability to work through ambiguous, undefined problems are essential. The role requires US work authorization without sponsorship.
