Coder is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Agentic Engineering team, shaping the technical direction of systems that power AI-driven development workflows. You'll work across the agent harness, integrations, and workflows that connect agents with real development environments, staying hands-on while setting technical strategy.
In this role, you'll design and build production systems primarily in Go, with work across React and TypeScript as needed. You'll evolve agent execution, tool use, context management, streaming, and long-running workflows. You'll extend Coder's provider-agnostic architecture as models and capabilities evolve, leading complex projects from early ambiguity through production.
You'll raise the engineering bar through design reviews, code reviews, and technical mentorship, partnering with Product and Design to create clear, useful agent experiences. You'll improve the reliability, performance, and operability of agentic systems without relying on formal authority.
The ideal candidate has deep experience building and operating production software systems, strong hands-on Go expertise, and experience with React and TypeScript. You should have hands-on experience building systems around LLMs and agentic workflows, including model APIs, tool calling, context management, or agent loops. Strong distributed systems knowledge, AWS familiarity, and a track record of setting technical direction are essential. You make the engineers around you better.
Bonus experience includes building coding agents, developer tools, cloud development environments, multi-agent systems, abstractions across model providers, deep AWS/Kubernetes/Docker/Linux expertise, or open-source contributions.
Coder's tech stack includes Go and Postgres on the backend, TypeScript and React on the frontend, AWS and Kubernetes for infrastructure, Prometheus and Grafana for observability, and GitHub Actions for CI/CD. The agentic architecture is provider-agnostic; this role helps decide how it evolves and keeps it reliable as the space moves quickly.
