Zscaler is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to join the Frontend Engineering team building Zero Trust Browser, a Browser Detection and Response (BDR) extension protecting users across Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role focused on building in-browser security capabilities that detect threats, enforce enterprise policy, and analyze content in real time across multiple execution contexts.
Key responsibilities include translating product requirements and UI/UX designs into clean, well-tested, performant TypeScript code; implementing security-sensitive logic that runs on every page load with minimal latency and memory overhead; writing modular, maintainable code that follows established patterns; writing comprehensive unit and integration tests; and collaborating cross-functionally with designers, backend engineers, and QA to ship features end-to-end.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of professional software development experience with meaningful time building production frontend applications in TypeScript/JavaScript, proven browser-extension development experience for Chrome, Firefox, and/or Safari, strong command of core JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript, and deep understanding of extension APIs, manifest versions (MV2/MV3), permission models, and separation between content scripts, background/service workers, and extension pages. You should be comfortable debugging across complex browser contexts using developer tools, think at scale and connect daily work to larger company mission, possess deep curiosity for solving complex technical hurdles, actively seek engineering challenges, lean on data to guide decisions, and maintain a growth mindset.
