Zscaler is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer (Microservices) to join the ZIA Engineering department in San Jose, CA on a hybrid basis (3 days/week in office). You will report to the Senior Director of Engineering and work on the control plane for the Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) product, a cloud-native Zero Trust Exchange platform that protects customers from cyberattacks and data loss. In this role, you will execute the technical roadmap to modernize enterprise platforms using API-first design and microservices architecture. You will design, develop, and deploy highly resilient, low-latency, event-driven solutions while maintaining ownership from API tiers to back-end services. You will role model a culture of quality by adhering to coding standards, performing code reviews, and championing TDD/BDD practices. Key responsibilities include partnering with Product, DevOps, and System Architects to translate complex business needs into scalable, high-performance technical solutions. You will utilize containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes) to manage service lifecycles within hybrid or public cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP), and leverage AI-powered tools for advanced problem-solving and engineering efficiency. You thrive in ambiguity and are comfortable building the path as you walk it. You act like an owner with a passion for the mission and a bias for action. You are a problem-solver who loves running towards challenges and is laser-focused on finding solutions that deliver impact. You are a high-trust collaborator who is ambitious for the team and embraces a challenge culture with candid, respectful feedback. You have a true growth mindset, are obsessed with your own development, and actively seek feedback to become a better partner and stronger teammate.
