Zscaler is seeking an experienced Staff Software Development Engineer to join its core API team. Reporting to the Manager of Software Development Engineering, you will drive high-performance API design, build robust microservices, and shape long-term system architecture for a cloud-native Zero Trust Exchange platform.
Key responsibilities include designing and developing high-quality, performant, scalable, and secure APIs; building microservices and extending in-house APIs; writing client-side code that integrates seamlessly with internal and external RESTful services and SDKs; partnering closely with front-end engineering teams to understand requirements and build robust endpoints; championing DevOps practices through continuous integration, infrastructure provisioning, automated deployment, and testing; and driving strategic technical contributions including system design, architectural governance, and guiding the long-term technical roadmap.
You will bridge the gap between complex back-end architectures and front-end interface requirements, delivering scalable, secure, and reliable systems that power the core platform. The role emphasizes impact over activity, with a focus on solving complex technical challenges and leveraging AI to amplify your contributions.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of hands-on software application development building production-grade software; strong expertise with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, or Quarkus; proven expertise in distributed, cloud-native applications focused on high availability, scalability, and reliability; deep experience with Docker/Kubernetes on AWS or GCP; ability to work independently in fast-paced Agile environments; and demonstrated curiosity about AI tools and integration of new technologies.
Preferred qualifications include polyglot programming skills (Java, Go, Python, C++), advanced DevOps and CI/CD experience (GitLab CI/CD pipelines), and deep knowledge of container orchestration and Kubernetes.
