Okta is seeking a Staff Site Reliability Engineer specializing in observability and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to own and expand the company's observability ecosystem. This is a high-impact, technical individual contributor role focused on building a world-class, scalable observability platform that serves SRE teams and business partners across the organization. Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining scalable observability infrastructure using Terraform and infrastructure-as-code principles; optimizing the collection, processing, and storage of observability data to ensure high reliability and low latency for Splunk and Grafana services; participating in on-call rotations and leading post-incident reviews to drive systemic improvements; and automating the deployment and scaling of observability agents and collectors to eliminate operational toil. Required qualifications include a minimum of 5+ years of experience scaling and managing observability in Google Cloud Platform, with deep expertise in creating intuitive, actionable Splunk or Grafana dashboards. Candidates must have at least 3+ years in an SRE, DevOps, or Systems Engineering role focused on high-availability systems. Strong programming proficiency in Python or Go is essential for building internal tools and automating workflows. A deep understanding of Linux internals, networking (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing), and container orchestration (Kubernetes/GKE) is required, along with a data-driven approach to debugging complex, cross-service performance bottlenecks. Bonus skills include hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry (OTel), Vector, or similar telemetry frameworks; experience migrating Splunk to Grafana Loki; and experience managing observability tools within AWS or other cloud platforms. This position requires the ability to access federal environments and work with protected federal data. Successful candidates must be able to establish U.S. Person status (U.S. Citizen, National, Lawful Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee) upon hire, per 22 CFR 120.15.
