Okta's Federal SRE team is seeking an experienced Staff Site Reliability Engineer to join the Emerging Products Group (EPG). This role focuses on building highly reliable, scalable, and secure cloud services for federal customers, with a strong emphasis on automation, platform engineering, observability, and operational excellence. You will serve as a technical leader within the EPG SRE organization, partnering with software engineers, architects, and product teams to design, build, and operate world-class cloud services. The ideal candidate embodies an automation-first mindset—"if you have to do it more than once, automate it"—and demonstrates a strong passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and implementing scalable, reliable network solutions across multiple teams - Maintaining highly available cloud infrastructure at the edge for the Okta identity platform - Collecting and analyzing data to identify root causes for network-specific events - Automating AWS infrastructure using Terraform - Evolving systems through changes that improve efficiency, scalability, and velocity Required qualifications: - Active TS/SCI security clearance with full scope polygraph - 8+ years in cloud network engineering or related roles - Deep expertise in TCP/IP networking stack (layers 2-7), VPC design, inter-VPC connectivity, stateless/stateful firewalls, DNS, WAF, and load balancing - Advanced AWS networking knowledge: Transit Gateway, Site-to-Site VPN, Direct Connect - Proficiency with load balancing, DNS, and networking protocols - Experience with Apache httpd, nginx, Apache Tomcat, or similar - Ability to troubleshoot using AWS VPC flow logs, CloudWatch metrics, and packet captures - Terraform experience and git proficiency - Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills - Proven experience with Federal and DoD compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, Impact Level 6) Desirable skills include Palo Alto next-gen virtual firewalls, debugging tools (gdb, strace, ltrace, tcpdump, Wireshark), Docker, and Kubernetes. Programming proficiency in Bash, Python, or Golang is a bonus.
