Mysten Labs is building foundational infrastructure for decentralized protocols and blockchain technologies. As Staff Security Engineer for the Walrus project, you will serve as the primary security partner for the team, embedding security practices throughout the development lifecycle from design phase onward. Key responsibilities include: - Provide deep architectural guidance and act as security partner for Walrus, with oversight across the broader Mysten ecosystem - Lead security assessments for new features and identify systemic risks with actionable remediation plans - Drive a "security-by-design" culture, ensuring security is front-and-center before code is written - Leverage AI-driven tools and advanced automation to identify and remediate security issues, freeing the team to focus on high-impact research - Maintain a generalist security perspective on infrastructure and product security across Walrus and beyond - Collaborate with engineering leadership to prioritize security roadmap items, balancing velocity with security posture - Mentor senior and junior engineers, setting technical direction for security standards and best practices You will need a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent, plus 8+ years of security engineering experience at a Staff level or equivalent. You should be a security generalist comfortable navigating infrastructure, application, and cryptographic security domains. Strong proficiency in building and deploying automated security tooling, including AI/ML and advanced analysis techniques, is essential. Deep expertise in collaborating with engineering teams during design phase to identify high-risk flaws is required. Preferred qualifications include technical understanding of decentralized storage, distributed systems, or Web3 stack; experience leading security transformations or implementing security-by-design frameworks in high-growth environments; and ability to balance tactical hands-on work with strategic planning.
