Yugabyte is hiring a Staff SDET to lead quality assurance and testing for YugabyteDB, a PostgreSQL-compatible distributed database trusted by industry leaders like Shopify, Paramount+, GM, Kroger, and Fiserv. The role sits within the Database QA team, which owns end-to-end quality validation across core storage, language layers (YSQL/YCQL), and high-impact features like Change Data Capture. As a Staff SDET, you will architect and develop sophisticated test automation frameworks and chaos-testing systems that simulate real-world failure modes and disasters. You'll design comprehensive test suites targeting the hardest problems in distributed databases: stress, resiliency, scalability, and performance. Key responsibilities include owning end-to-end quality for major features from design review through production-ready automation, modernizing existing test footprints for efficiency and CI/CD stability, and uncovering deep-seated bugs such as data corruption and consistency violations. You will deep-dive into the codebase to understand technical dependencies and execution paths, ensuring tests target critical logic. You'll scale test infrastructure to keep pace with the growing feature set and act as a technical lead for junior engineers, serving as an internal advocate for customer experience. This is a technical leadership role where you'll influence product evolution through rigorous testing feedback and collaborate closely with development teams to define improvements based on test insights and customer issues. The ideal candidate is obsessed with finding impossible bugs and transforming complex customer scenarios into rigorous stress tests. You'll work with a distributed team spanning 12+ countries, contributing to a database deployed in over 100 countries powering more than 5 million clusters worldwide.
