Form Energy is hiring a Staff Reliability Engineer to lead reliability and lifetime improvement efforts for iron-air battery packs and deployed systems within the Systems Reliability team in Berkeley, CA.
You will serve as the primary technical authority on Design for Reliability (DfR) for critical electro-mechanical plant subsystems supporting the battery manufacturing facility. Your responsibilities include:
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring peers on DfR methodologies, guiding cross-functional design failure analyses (DFMEAs) for battery pack subsystems
- Translating high-level product goals into rigorous, measurable reliability requirements and defining validation roadmaps for component and sub-system lifetimes
- Designing and leading complex experiments to uncover failure mechanisms, determine root causes, and establish accelerated failure-rate testing methods—with particular focus on electronics control systems including PCBs, connectors, and bus bars
- Championing safety across reliability initiatives
- Collaborating across functional teams, including remote members, to embed reliability thinking into product design
Form Energy manufactures long-duration iron-air battery systems for grid-scale energy storage. The company has been recognized by TIME, MIT Technology Review, and Fast Company for its breakthrough technology. Production is underway at a high-volume manufacturing facility in West Virginia, and the company has signed contracts with leading US electric utilities.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of industry experience
- Demonstrated expertise developing new tests to evaluate performance and/or reliability of electrical and electromechanical systems
- Experience with testing of PCBs and other electronic components
- Familiarity with developing accelerated lifetime tests to assess component reliability across a range of operating conditions
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills within peer groups and broader organization, including remote team members
