Impulse is seeking a Staff Propulsion Development Engineer to own all aspects of in-house propulsion system design, analysis, implementation, and operation. You will work with a fast-paced, agile team developing high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs, building on the successful Mira spacecraft program. The role focuses on developing new propulsion systems for on-orbit and lander applications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own all aspects of storable liquid bipropellant thruster and/or subsystem development
- Conduct analysis and testing to ensure hardware performance and function meet design intent
- Prepare, plan, and execute tests including engine hotfire testing
- Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver reliable, high-performance, integrated systems
- Resolve technical issues with innovative, resourceful solutions
- Lead technical projects and/or mentor a small team of engineers
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or science
- 8+ years of demonstrated experience in aerospace propulsion
- Prior experience with bipropellant rocket engines, including hardware and test experience with combustion devices
- Proficiency in fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, and materials principles
- Ability to perform system trades (thermal-fluids analyses, materials selection)
- Hands-on experience with fluid, mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
- Demonstrated project ownership and collaborative team skills
