Intercom's AI Group is seeking a Staff Product Engineer to build Fin, the company's flagship AI Customer Agent product. Fin is the highest-performing AI customer support agent on the market, enabling businesses to deliver always-on support across service, sales, and ecommerce channels.
In this role, you will work at the intersection of machine learning and product engineering. You'll collaborate closely with ML Scientists and product teams to transform proof-of-concept code into robust, scalable production systems. Your responsibilities include building systems that power Fin's AI products (primarily in Python, with occasional work in Rails), partnering with product teams to shape AI-powered customer experiences, and contributing across all phases of software development from ideation through testing.
A key aspect of this Staff-level position is raising technical standards across the AI Group and the broader organization. You'll play an active role in hiring, mentoring, and developing other engineers, helping to build a world-class engineering culture.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience shipping high-quality products and can demonstrate significant impact from previous work. While ML experience is not required, you should have strong software engineering fundamentals, deep knowledge of a high-level programming language (Ruby, Python, JavaScript, etc.), and a bias toward progress over perfection. A BSc in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related discipline is expected. Experience in data analytics or statistical roles is a bonus.
