You will join as a Staff Product Design Engineer, responsible for driving industrial design, architecture, and engineering of Samsara hardware products from concept through mass production. This is a technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in product design, systems thinking, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and drive multi-year technical vision and cross-functional hardware strategy that scales the platform and solves complex physical-to-digital challenges
- Establish architectures and design solutions addressing the toughest challenges of Samsara hardware in rugged environments
- Drive system feature trade-offs and define product specifications with product management, engineering teams, and executive leadership
- Design, build, and ship impactful products addressing customer needs and expanding platform capability
- Own the full development process from engineering feasibility through proof-of-concept, detailed design, validation, mass production, and go-to-market
- Validate products through engineering evaluation, rigorous testing, customer field testing, and return analysis
- Own the complete customer hardware experience including industrial design, packaging, and installation
- Leverage JDM manufacturing partners to achieve performance, cost, and schedule goals
- Champion Samsara's cultural principles as the company scales globally
You will work collaboratively with Product Management, Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Engineering Program Management, and Hardware leadership to balance functionality, cost, installation, usability, and aesthetics. The role involves close collaboration with Operations, Supply Chain teams, external laboratories, and a growing global supply base.
This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in the San Francisco office and 2 days working remotely. The role is open to candidates residing in the US.
