Salary: USD 151,000 - 191,000 / annual

Sila Nanotechnologies is a next-generation battery materials company on a mission to power the world's transition to clean energy. The company engineers and manufactures breakthrough battery materials that significantly increase energy density while reducing size and weight, enabling smaller, more powerful batteries for consumer devices and electric vehicles. As a Staff Process Engineer on the Technology team, you will be responsible for designing, commissioning, and starting up critical steps in Sila's first industrial-scale plant and subsequent facilities. You will also contribute to developing next-generation technology after the first plant reaches operational status. Key responsibilities include: - Commission Sila's manufacturing plant to produce next-generation battery materials - Serve as the process engineer for critical unit operations or sets of units in the manufacturing process - Collaborate across all engineering disciplines, operations, and external stakeholders required for chemical plant operations - Balance day-to-day operational priorities with long-term strategic deliverables - Work seamlessly with internal teams and third-party vendors to drive technical deliverables - Play a critical role in the long-term vision and execution of production line improvements - Drive design and control scheme modifications for large-scale, first-of-a-kind plant during startup - Develop heat and material balances (HMBs), P&IDs, and other FEED deliverables from concept for next-generation plants - Drive ideas through R&D, Material Development, and Pilot Test teams for at-scale implementation - Influence others across the organization and drive technical solutions You bring a collaborative mindset, bias for action, and comfort working in high-pressure situations such as plant startups, new grade trials, or turnarounds. You have experience working efficiently to deliver on-spec product and have seen different manufacturing plant technologies or worked with bulk solids in manufacturing. You possess expert-level competency in at least one chemical technology and demonstrate extreme ownership mentality with a track record of pushing yourself and your team to excel. Requirements: - B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering - Minimum 5 years of experience directly owning a high-volume production line or in a design-to-commissioning role as a Production or Process Design Engineer for a plant or comparable manufacturing facility (specialty materials, food, chemicals, etc.) - Ability to visualize in great detail and possess first-principles understanding of an operating plant - Exposure to process design ranging from minor retrofits to new plant scope - Knowledge of basic control schemes and familiarity with advanced control strategies - Experience with daily and long-term process optimization and production constraints - Risk management, management of change, and HAZOP experience - Years of experience creating, reading, and editing PFDs, P&IDs, and operating procedures - Ability to determine and solve for key parameters for process scale-up to commercial volumes - Track record of relentlessly challenging accepted practices and inefficiencies Physical demands include up to 75% travel during startup periods and 10% during non-startup periods, ability to work in manufacturing environments with PPE requirements, and capability to climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
