Archer Technologies is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for sustainable air mobility. The company is scaling production of its Electric Propulsion System (EPS)—comprising the electric motor, inverter, and propeller assemblies—which represents one of the most technically demanding, highly automated manufacturing systems in the factory.
As a Staff Powertrain Manufacturing Engineer, you will lead the design and scaling of the EPS production line from concept through high-rate manufacturing. Your responsibilities include developing manufacturing strategies for layout, automation, tooling, and ramp-up planning; collaborating cross-functionally with Product Design, Quality, Facilities, and Manufacturing teams to integrate new electric motor and propeller systems into production; and driving Design for Manufacturability (DFM) efforts to ensure efficient, safe, and scalable production.
You will develop comprehensive manufacturing build plans defining part flow, line layout, tools, equipment, and manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM); specify and validate automation systems, tooling, and test equipment for high-reliability production; perform Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to proactively identify and mitigate production risks; and author detailed work instructions for EPS assembly and installation. You will support first article builds and production validation testing to ensure process stability and repeatability, and drive continuous improvement through Lean, Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent) and 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in EV, aerospace, or advanced hardware production. You must have hands-on experience building mechanical and electronic assemblies using sophisticated manufacturing tools, with specific experience in thrust assembly, inverter production, or rotor/stator/engine production. Strong technical foundations in CAD, PLM, MES, ERP systems, GD&T, and statistical process control (SPC) are essential, along with demonstrated proficiency in structured problem-solving tools (DMAIC, 8D, 5 Whys) and excellent communication skills.
Bonus qualifications include experience with EV Drive Unit manufacturing, industrial automation (PLC, robotics, gantries), high-voltage systems, batteries or electric motors, aircraft conformity or configuration management, NX and AutoCAD, and willingness to travel up to 10%.
