Wispr AI is building a voice interface product (Flow) that has scaled from $2M to $50M ARR in under 12 months. The company serves millions of users and thousands of enterprise customers with a small, focused engineering team. You'll join a three-person platform team as a Staff Platform Engineer responsible for building the infrastructure that powers Flow's voice-to-text experience. The role sits at the intersection of product and ML systems, where latency is critical—500ms feels magical to users, 1000ms feels annoying—and every millisecond matters at scale. Key responsibilities include: - Building the seam between product and ML: credentials, proxy, routing, and experimentation infrastructure - Identifying scaling bottlenecks two quarters in advance and architecting solutions before they become problems - Owning entire platform subsystems end-to-end - Improving developer experience and deployment velocity for the broader engineering team - Setting technical direction as the platform team grows from three to eight engineers The ideal candidate has experience rewriting services due to architectural issues, has debugged complex system failures and thinks ahead about implications, builds patient foundational systems that enable faster shipping downstream, and thrives on problems with multiple constraints and edge cases. You care equally about user experience and technical requirements. About 60% of the team is in San Francisco; the rest are remote (mostly US-based). In-office staff work five days a week typically; remote employees are flown to SF for three to four days monthly with all expenses covered. The company sponsors visas including H1B, O1, EB1, L1, and STEM+OPT. Compensation includes equity on employee-friendly terms (early exercise, extended exercise windows, ISOs and RSUs), 100% premium coverage for health/dental/vision (Anthem Blue Cross Gold PPO), 401(k) with 4% match, 16 weeks paid parental leave, flexible time off, all office meals, commuter benefits, relocation reimbursement, and high-spec equipment.
