Salary: USD 190,000 - 345,000 / annual
OpenSea is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to design and evolve the technical foundations powering their onchain economy platform. You'll architect and maintain critical platform services, infrastructure, and internal tooling that enable engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate products at scale. This role bridges two key responsibilities: architecting and maintaining core systems while enabling the broader engineering organization to work safely and productively.
Key responsibilities include designing and evolving platform services and infrastructure; owning complex technical systems from definition through implementation with focus on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer experience; implementing best-in-class observability, monitoring, and alerting across systems; maintaining and improving AI skills and tools to enhance system accessibility and contribution ease; expanding CI coverage for improved correctness and AI verifiability; partnering with product teams to accelerate critical product development; and shipping high-quality, reliable software leveraging AI and modern development tools.
You'll need 7+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale backend or platform systems, strong fluency in JVM languages (Kotlin or Java), and demonstrated expertise designing and operating distributed systems and modern cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate has deep platform engineering knowledge including developer tooling, CI/CD, observability, and operational best practices; proven ability to own complex, ambiguous technical problems; and experience leveraging AI tools to improve engineering quality and team effectiveness. Passion for Web3, digital ownership, or emerging technologies is valued.
