Robinhood's Red Team is seeking a Staff Offensive Security Engineer to lead security assessments and red team operations across applications, infrastructure, and physical environments. In this role, you will plan and execute sophisticated security testing, including long-term red team exercises that simulate real-world attack scenarios. You'll mentor junior security engineers, develop tools and automation for security testing, and partner closely with detection and response teams to improve incident readiness through adversarial simulations.
Your responsibilities include conducting threat modeling and penetration testing across the company's technology stack, communicating findings to stakeholders at all levels (from engineers to executives), and working with engineering teams to remediate identified risks. You'll lead security incidents when red team findings require escalation, participate in adversarial simulation exercises, and evangelize the offensive security team's work throughout the organization.
You bring 8+ years of experience in red team operations or advanced penetration testing, with demonstrated mentoring experience. You have deep expertise in modern attack vectors including CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker), and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP). You understand defensive tools and evasion techniques, are proficient with the MITRE ATT&CK Framework, and can read/write Python, Go, and JavaScript. You're comfortable with macOS and Linux, understand network protocols (DNS, TCP/IP), and have strong knowledge of access control and identity security fundamentals. Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential, as is the ability to work effectively in distributed teams using text-based collaboration tools.
The role is based in Bellevue, WA; Menlo Park, CA; or New York, NY, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week. Robinhood values in-person collaboration to accelerate innovation and strengthen team community. Experience in fintech and prior technical leadership roles are bonuses.
