ARX Robotics is seeking a Staff Navigation Engineer to lead the development of autonomous navigation systems for ground vehicles operating in complex off-road environments. In this role, you will design and implement global and local path planning algorithms tailored for unstructured terrain, integrating perception and localization data into cost maps and occupancy grids for obstacle-aware navigation.
You will develop high-level autonomy logic using behavior trees and state machines to enable mission execution and recovery behaviors. Your responsibilities include validating navigation systems in simulation before real-world deployment, testing and tuning performance in field environments to improve trajectory smoothness and safety, and optimizing navigation pipelines for real-time execution on edge computing hardware.
This is a cross-functional role requiring close collaboration with perception, localization, and platform engineering teams to integrate navigation capabilities into the broader autonomy stack. You will analyze field data and system performance to identify and resolve navigation challenges, directly influencing the operational effectiveness of autonomous and teleoperated vehicles used in demanding real-world conditions.
The role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge autonomous robotics technologies in a fast-moving defense technology environment, shaping how robotic platforms plan, adapt, and execute missions across unpredictable terrain.
