Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Staff Modeling and Simulation Engineer to join the design team and help develop next-generation fusion hardware. As a lead technical expert, you will drive predictive validation of complex hardware systems through advanced multi-physics simulation. In this role, you will serve as a senior technical authority responsible for developing and implementing sophisticated simulation models that span thermal, structural, fluid flow, and chemical physics regimes. You will work on deeply complex physics problems requiring rigorous modeling standards and validation methodologies. Your expertise will be critical in predicting hardware behavior, identifying design risks, and optimizing performance before physical prototyping. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional design, engineering, and manufacturing teams in a fast-paced environment focused on delivering first-of-a-kind fusion power plant hardware. This is a hands-on technical role where you will mentor junior engineers, establish simulation best practices, and contribute to the company's mission of commercializing fusion energy. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in multi-physics simulation tools (such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or equivalent), strong fundamentals in thermal-structural-fluid coupling, and experience with complex hardware validation. You should be comfortable translating physical phenomena into computational models, validating simulations against experimental data, and communicating technical findings to non-specialist stakeholders.
