Cohesity, a leader in AI-powered data security serving over 13,600 enterprise customers including 85+ Fortune 100 companies, is seeking a Staff ML Engineer (Level 5) to architect and scale the Gaia Emblem engine—the intelligence layer powering their next-generation data platform.
In this role, you will design and build large-scale, production-grade ML/LLM systems spanning model serving, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), GPU infrastructure, and distributed backend services. As a Staff-level engineer, you will set technical direction, mentor senior engineers, and partner closely with Product and Data Engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include: architecting the technical roadmap for Gaia Emblem including LLM integration, RAG pipelines, and prompt-engineering frameworks; designing and operating scalable GPU-aware infrastructure on Kubernetes (vanilla K8s, OpenShift, EKS, GKE); building resilient, high-throughput distributed systems and microservices via gRPC and REST APIs; owning data engineering pipelines for ML workflows across SQL, NoSQL, and search systems; defining engineering best practices including CI/CD, test automation, observability, and infrastructure-as-code; leading design reviews and mentoring engineers; partnering with Product, Applied ML, and SRE teams; driving performance optimization; and evaluating new tools and frameworks.
Required: 10+ years professional software engineering experience with 8+ years building distributed, production-grade backend systems; 3+ years hands-on experience with LLM-based systems, RAG architectures, or applied ML infrastructure; demonstrated production-scale Kubernetes experience including GPU workloads; track record of technical leadership and mentoring; Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field. Preferred: Master's or PhD in CS, ML, or related field.
