You will join as a Staff Mechanical Engineer leading new product development from concept through production. This is a high-ownership role on a small, mission-driven team with significant influence over product direction and engineering decisions. You'll architect and design complex electromechanical systems integrating plastic, metal, soft goods, sensors, and actuators. Your responsibilities include driving designs across the entire development lifecycle—brainstorming, CAD, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing ramp in Asia. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with industrial design, marketing, product, electrical, software, reliability, and manufacturing engineering teams, as well as company leadership. You'll perform thermal, fluid, and structural analysis to ensure designs meet product goals.
The role is based in the San Francisco office, 5 days per week. Eight Sleep operates with high intensity and expects team members to be deeply committed, often working 60+ hours per week. The company emphasizes a performance-driven culture and expects excellence without compromise.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of consumer product design experience
- Knowledge of injection molding, sheet metal forming, and sensor/electronics integration
- Track record of shipping high-volume consumer products with manufacturing support in Asia
- Willingness and ability to travel to China as needed
- High proficiency with 3D modeling and simulation tools (Solidworks, NX, Creo)
- Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), tolerance analysis, functional dimensioning and geometric tolerancing (GD&T)
- Solid understanding of root cause analysis, design of experiments (DOEs), and quality measuring techniques
- BSME or equivalent (MS preferred)
