Form Energy is hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join the Hardware Engineering team in Berkeley, CA. The company develops long-duration iron-air battery systems for grid-scale energy storage, with manufacturing underway at a high-volume facility in West Virginia and contracts signed with leading US electric utilities. In this role, you will design, prototype, and own the release of battery system components to meet performance, functional, manufacturability, weight, and cost requirements. You will drive the design release process including CAD, BOM management, change control, and documentation. You will lead DFMEA development, identify and mitigate risks, and manage supplier communications to transition designs from prototype to high-volume production. You will collaborate cross-functionally with test, systems integration engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to define interface requirements and develop integrated solutions. You will own validation and compliance testing to ensure component performance and reliability. You will support manufacturing line bring-up activities, including hands-on fabrication and testing of first-of-a-kind prototypes to validate design decisions. Additionally, you will develop standards and processes to improve engineering rigor across the team. Relocation assistance is available. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 10+ years of industry experience engineering, designing, and releasing systems and sub-systems through the full product lifecycle - Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D drafting (any software; Solidworks or CATIA preferred) - Proficiency in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) - Proven track record designing and optimizing systems for form, fit, and function - Strong fundamentals in first-principles engineering and engineering rigor - Experience designing complex systems involving multiple tools, multiple components, and a range of resins and manufacturing processes - Experience developing DFMEA and DVPs (Design Verification Plans) - Excellent communication skills with strong organizational and cross-functional collaboration capabilities - Experience taking products from early-stage development through production
