The Nuclear Company is a Series A-funded startup pioneering advanced nuclear reactor design and deployment through an AI-enabled, design-once-build-many approach. As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for designing, analyzing, and maintaining complex mechanical systems and components for nuclear power plants and advanced reactor projects.
You will work across multi-disciplinary engineering teams to design and analyze systems using industry-standard software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS) while applying ASME and ANSI codes and standards. Key responsibilities include: designing and analyzing mechanical components and systems; preparing engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications; reviewing and preparing engineering modification packages; providing technical guidance to junior engineering staff; diagnosing equipment failures and supporting root cause analyses; conducting structural integrity and performance analyses; reviewing vendor documentation; participating in design reviews; interfacing with civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation & controls engineers; supporting quality assurance programs; and preparing technical reports.
You will resolve technical issues for operating nuclear plants, new builds, and other nuclear and non-nuclear projects while supporting corporate initiatives and ongoing construction projects. The role emphasizes an AI-first mindset, with expectations to leverage AI tools and the company's Nuclear Operating System (NOS) to improve work quality, speed, and impact.
Required: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited university; Engineering in Training (EIT) license; 8+ years of engineering experience; proficiency in mechanical engineering principles and CAD/simulation software; ability to obtain security clearance for unescorted nuclear station access; strong communication and analytical skills. Professional Engineer license is a plus. Preferred: causal analysis experience, qualified standard design experience, and familiarity with AI-augmented engineering simulation tools.
