ICEYE is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to serve as a senior technical anchor for the mechanical design of next-generation optical satellite platforms. This role is based in Warsaw, Poland, within the Optical Systems department, reporting to the Engineering Manager.
You will own the mechanical design, structural analysis, and optimization of critical satellite platform elements, working hands-on in CAD from concept through manufacturing, testing, and qualification. Key responsibilities include guiding material selection and analysis for the space environment (accounting for outgassing, thermal cycling, and thermoelastic effects), working directly with component manufacturers and subcontractors to ensure quality and performance, and mentoring other engineers on the team to raise technical standards.
Required qualifications include expert-level mechanical CAD design and analysis skills across all project phases; first-principles thinking to break down complex problems; deep familiarity with material science for space environments; knowledge of testing methodologies (TVAC, vibration testing, pre-launch qualification); experience with optical component manufacturers; and a proven track record of delivering designs through suppliers and subcontractors to production. You should be comfortable mentoring engineers without formal people-management responsibility and embrace an R&D mindset of learning by doing.
Nice-to-have experience includes QA for optical components, AIT for optical systems and precise mechanisms, and background with large optical earth observation payloads.
