CesiumAstro is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design efforts across all phases of product development for satellite communication systems, UAVs, launch vehicles, and aerospace platforms. This is a hands-on role in a dynamic startup environment where you'll own mechanical designs from concept through in-orbit support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead mechanical design of CesiumAstro products across the full development lifecycle (concept, requirements, detailed design, simulation, analysis, manufacturing, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support)
- Conduct thermal management design and thermal simulation/analysis
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA), shock and vibration simulation, and structural analysis
- Apply precision machining principles and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Implement EMI/EMC mitigation techniques
- Conduct cost analysis to optimize mechanical designs
- Mentor junior engineers and serve as a technical resource across the organization
- Present engineering design review materials to customers and executive leadership
- Participate in proposal-writing efforts
- Collaborate cross-functionally in a startup environment
Required expertise: extensive electronics packaging design experience, CAD proficiency, spacecraft mechanical interface knowledge, environmental qualification of electronic assemblies, thermal management, FEA, and strong written and verbal communication skills. This role requires excellent presentation and communication abilities for customer and executive interactions.
