Anduril Industries is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical systems for a critical, production-stage defense product. You will drive the full mechanical design lifecycle for rugged, mission-critical hardware used in advanced targeting and sensing systems, from assessing existing architecture and identifying technical debt to evolving designs based on warfighter feedback. Key responsibilities include leading mechanical design from concept through prototype validation, managing complex subsystem integration (LiDAR, weapon mounts, power systems, electronics), and ensuring designs meet extreme operational requirements (shock, vibration, environmental sealing, field maintainability). You will serve as the mechanical authority for product quality, investigating root causes, implementing corrective actions, and driving Design for Manufacturability and Assembly improvements. You will own the complete CAD-to-prototype pipeline, manage all engineering documentation and Bills of Materials within PLM systems, oversee configuration and change management, and support qualification campaigns. Direct engagement with warfighters in the field—including travel to exercises—is a core part of the role, ensuring feedback loops inform continuous product improvement. Required: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering with demonstrated design ownership; strong fundamentals in mechanical design, tolerance analysis, and materials selection; hands-on prototyping experience; CAD proficiency and high-quality engineering documentation skills; PLM/BOM management experience; complex root cause analysis and corrective action implementation; self-starter mentality; U.S. Person status for export-controlled data access. Preferred: Defense or ruggedized systems background; small arms component design experience; medium to high-volume production environment exposure; complex electromechanical BOM ownership; formal change management and multi-configuration product experience; knowledge of machining, sheet metal, composites, injection molding, and 3D printing; NX/Teamcenter experience; active Top Secret security clearance.
