Anduril Industries is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical systems for a critical, production-stage defense product within the Connected Warfare team. This role combines strategic technical leadership with hands-on engineering execution, requiring comprehensive ownership of mechanical design, integration, and continuous improvement for rugged, mission-critical hardware.
You will lead the full mechanical design lifecycle, from assessing existing architectures (mounting, housings, thermal management, integration points) to identifying design gaps and technical debt. You'll drive design evolution by translating operational feedback and evolving requirements into detailed mechanical designs, owning the complete CAD-to-prototype pipeline including design, fabrication coordination, and rigorous benchtop validation.
Key responsibilities include ensuring robust mechanical integration across complex subsystems (LiDAR, weapon mounts, power systems, electronics) and designing for extreme operational environments (shock, vibration, environmental sealing) with field maintainability in mind. You'll serve as the mechanical authority for product quality, investigating and resolving complex issues, implementing permanent corrective actions, and driving Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) improvements.
You will manage all engineering documentation including production drawings, technical specifications, and the engineering Bill of Materials (BOM), while overseeing configuration and change management processes. You'll support qualification campaigns to validate operational capabilities and collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams (electrical/firmware, manufacturing, test/evaluation). Direct engagement with warfighters in the field, including travel to exercises for feedback collection and product support, is a core aspect of this role.
Required: B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience with demonstrated design ownership; strong fundamentals in mechanical design, tolerance analysis, and materials selection; hands-on prototyping experience; proficiency with CAD software and high-quality engineering documentation; meaningful experience managing BOMs and drawings in PLM tools; complex root cause analysis and permanent corrective action implementation experience; self-starter mentality; U.S. Person status for export-controlled data access.
Preferred: Background in defense or ruggedized systems; experience designing for extreme shock, vibration, and environmental sealing; prior experience with small arms components; medium to high-volume production environment experience; ownership of complex electromechanical product BOMs; comfort with formal change management and multiple product configurations; knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, composites, injection molding, 3D printing); NX/Teamcenter experience; Active Top Secret Security clearance.
