Relativity Space is building rockets and advanced manufacturing systems to serve commercial and exploration missions. The Tooling and Factory Automation team designs and develops specialized equipment, fixtures, and automated systems that enable production of the Terran R vehicle and Aeon engine.
As a Staff Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer, you will lead the design and development of high-quality tooling and factory automation solutions. Your responsibilities include:
• Develop production and development tooling, assembly fixtures, material handling systems, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines for rocket and engine manufacturing
• Conduct mechanical analysis and design optimization across multiple concurrent projects of varying scale and complexity
• Apply rigorous design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) to create precise tooling definitions and technical documentation
• Collaborate closely with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration teams to optimize for safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, and maintainability
• Contribute technical leadership and mentorship to the broader engineering organization
• Participate in factory automation initiatives that are critical to scaling production across existing and future facilities
• Translate top-level requirements and concepts into functional delivered equipment
You will work in a fast-paced, high-autonomy environment where your designs directly impact manufacturing efficiency and rocket production. The role offers significant ownership—your work will be visible on the factory floor and shape how Relativity builds rockets and factories at scale.
