Archer Technologies is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California, building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers while producing minimal noise. The company is scaling production of its cutting-edge aircraft and seeks a Staff Manufacturing Design Engineer to lead methods and standards across the organization.
In this role, you will serve as a technical authority bridging aircraft design and production, unifying manufacturing processes into a centralized, version-controlled knowledge base. You will work cross-functionally with Design, Quality, Supply Chain, Certification, Industrialization, Facilities, and Operations teams to define and scale manufacturing solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, documenting, and maintaining standardized manufacturing engineering methods and best practices across the Manufacturing Design Engineering (MDE) organization
- Defining common frameworks for manufacturing planning, process definition, work instruction structure, and build readiness across development, certification, and production phases
- Leading facility planning standards, including space allocation, line layouts, material flow, aisleways, egress, and infrastructure requirements
- Defining and standardizing tooling and ground support equipment (GSE) requirements, including classification, readiness criteria, and manufacturing integration
- Developing standardized approaches for test and functional test equipment aligned with build sequencing, quality, and certification requirements
- Partnering with functional teams to ensure standards are practical, scalable, and aligned with execution realities
- Supporting governance of standards adoption, identifying gaps through build feedback, and driving continuous improvement
- Acting as a technical resource and mentor for MDE engineers, enabling consistent execution across programs
Required qualifications: Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; 10+ years of aerospace manufacturing engineering experience or similarly complex, regulated environment; deep hands-on experience with manufacturing planning, process definition, work instructions, tooling, and production support.
