Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. Kaleidos is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases, capable of running for up to 5 years without refueling.
As Staff Loads & Dynamics Engineer, you will own structural loads, vibration, and dynamic analyses for Kaleidos and supporting hardware. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in structural mechanics and the ability to influence hardware architecture across the product lifecycle—from manufacturing and transportation through deployment and operations.
Key responsibilities include developing static, dynamic, and transient loads for reactor systems and transport configurations; performing modal, random vibration, shock, and fatigue assessments; implementing explicit dynamics simulations for nonlinear response under seismic and transportation events; defining transportation and handling environments; conducting finite element analyses using ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar tools; and collaborating with structures, mechanical design, thermal, nuclear, and test teams to influence design decisions. You will support test planning and correlation, develop analysis documentation for regulatory interfaces, contribute to failure investigations and root cause analyses, and help establish best practices for loads and dynamics verification within a growing organization.
Required: Bachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering; 5+ years in loads, dynamics, or structural analysis for complex mechanical systems; strong fundamentals in structural mechanics, dynamics, and vibration; experience with FEA of metallic and composite structures; proficiency with ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran; knowledge of design allowables, safety factors, and margin-of-safety methodologies; and ability to communicate analysis results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desired: aerospace, launch, defense, nuclear, or heavy industrial experience; dynamics modeling software (LS-Dyna, Abaqus explicit); shock and vibration testing background; fatigue and fracture mechanics knowledge; bolted joint analysis experience; Master's or PhD; and familiarity with nuclear or safety-critical system requirements.
