Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. Kaleidos is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases, capable of running for up to 5 years without refueling.
As Staff Loads & Dynamics Engineer, you will own structural loads, vibration, and dynamic analyses for Kaleidos and supporting hardware. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in structural mechanics and the ability to work across manufacturing, transportation, deployment, and operational environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop static, dynamic, and transient loads for reactor systems, support structures, and transport configurations
- Perform structural dynamics analyses: modal, random vibration, shock, sine vibration, and fatigue assessments
- Implement explicit dynamics simulations for nonlinear reactor response under seismic and transportation events
- Define transportation and handling environments (road, rail, air, sea)
- Generate load cases and environments for structural sizing and verification
- Conduct finite element analyses using ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar tools
- Collaborate with design, thermal, nuclear, and test teams on hardware architecture and material selection
- Support test planning, modal surveys, and structural verification testing
- Develop analysis documentation and requirements for internal and regulatory reviews
- Contribute to failure investigations and design improvements
- Establish best practices for loads, dynamics, and structural verification
Required: Bachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering; 5+ years in loads, dynamics, or structural analysis for complex systems; strong fundamentals in structural mechanics and vibration; FEA experience with metallic and composite structures; proficiency in ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran; knowledge of design allowables and margin-of-safety methodologies; cross-functional communication skills.
Desired: aerospace, launch, defense, nuclear, or heavy industrial experience; dynamics modeling software (LD-Dyna, Abaqus explicit); shock and vibration testing background; fatigue and fracture mechanics knowledge; bolted joint analysis; Master's or PhD; nuclear or safety-critical systems familiarity.
