Relativity Space is building rockets and spacecraft for commercial and science missions. The Interplanetary Sciences Program is developing a Mars science orbiter targeted for launch in 2028, funded philanthropically. You will own the end-to-end design, build, and operation of the integrated hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test environment for the spacecraft. This is a hands-on role spanning hardware integration, software automation, and spacecraft-level validation. Key responsibilities: - Design and build the ISP HITL test environment from the ground up: rack fabrication, avionics installation, breakout hardware, load emulation, harness fabrication and routing, and supporting test equipment. - Develop the simulation, data-acquisition, and control infrastructure that drives stimulus into the system, captures results, and exercises flight software against real and representative spacecraft hardware. - Build software fixturing, automated test frameworks, and CI/regression pipelines that validate every software change on hardware with automated pass/fail adjudication, regression detection, and clear failure reporting. - Debug integrated failures across flight software, avionics, interfaces, harnessing, timing, communications, and test infrastructure; feed root-cause findings back to responsible design teams. - Validate timing-sensitive behaviors and ensure the test environment credibly proves that payloads, avionics, flight software, and interfaces work together as intended. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers across the spacecraft program. This role requires deep ownership of a critical capability, comfort debugging across hardware and software boundaries, and the ability to unblock the broader program with confidence and speed. You'll take the HITL environment from an empty rack to a running, automated, always-on validation system that continuously checks the spacecraft as it evolves.
