As Staff Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, you will lead the development and deployment of first-of-its-kind chemical refining processes while playing a critical role in developing software for capital project execution and automated plant optimization. Your scope spans the full lifecycle of equipment and plant-wide instrument and controls infrastructure—from concept and modeling validation through procurement, engineering, fabrication, installation, commissioning, ramp, and handover to operations. You will also support the buildout of an in-house engineering team.
Key responsibilities include: leading equipment scopes from concept through commercialization; managing external equipment providers, technology licensors, and engineering companies to deliver fully integrated mineral refining solutions; driving cross-functional teams of lab technicians, pilot plant engineers, process engineers, and project engineers to scale novel processes and de-risk commercialization; hiring, mentoring, and managing junior engineers; leading selection, procurement, calibration, and installation of instruments, valves, and analyzers; supporting machine learning applications for industrial facility control and optimization; and identifying opportunities for software and ML teams to automate capital project workflows and develop advanced plant control algorithms.
You bring strong engineering fundamentals and demonstrated problem-solving ability. You have minimum 7 years of direct instrumentation engineering experience, including measurement technology evaluation, instrument specification and procurement, detailed design, field inspections, QA/QC, calibration, startup support, and troubleshooting. You have hands-on experience with analyzer design, procurement, installation, and operations support; P&ID review; instrumentation deliverables development; control system programming; and HMI programming. You have worked in industrial manufacturing, large-scale mining or mineral processing, large-scale chemical production, or engineering/procurement/construction firms. You have direct or indirect leadership experience with engineers and technicians, and project management experience on medium to large-scale (>$5M) capital projects.
