Carbon is a 3D printing company enabling creators to manufacture real-world parts at scale. The company operates at the intersection of hardware, software, and molecular science, with a cloud platform that manages print jobs flowing from customers' printers globally.
You will join a small, high-trust platform team owning the foundational infrastructure that powers everything at Carbon. This includes AWS and GCP cloud environments, networking connecting the cloud to a global fleet of printers in the field, Terraform-based infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD pipelines shipping software to production.
Key responsibilities:
**Multi-Cloud Infrastructure**: Be a core owner of AWS and GCP environments hosting Tier-0 services. Keep them resilient, cost-efficient, and secure while extending them for next-generation products.
**Cloud-to-Printer Networking**: Design and maintain networking connecting cloud services to printers worldwide. Own VPCs, peering, DNS, load balancing, TLS, and secure edge connectivity ensuring reliable global connectivity.
**Kubernetes & Service Mesh**: Own production Kubernetes clusters and Istio service mesh. Drive improvements to cluster architecture, workload isolation, traffic management, mTLS, and observability. Help application teams run services safely.
**Infrastructure as Code**: Take end-to-end ownership of Terraform initiatives from module design through rollout. Shape IaC standards, maintain state and module ecosystem health, enable safe infrastructure shipping.
**CI/CD Leadership**: Lead major improvements to Jenkins and GitHub Actions pipelines. Accelerate builds, improve deployment safety, enhance feedback loops, and define delivery excellence at Carbon.
**Reliability & On-Call**: Participate in platform on-call, drive incident response and postmortems, turn recurring pain into permanent fixes. Help teams adopt strong operational practices.
**Technical Leadership**: Work as senior technical contributor across infrastructure, security, and application teams. Translate product and operational needs into robust designs, raise the bar through review, mentor engineers.
Required qualifications: 7+ years building and operating production cloud infrastructure with deep expertise in AWS or GCP and working proficiency in the other. Strong networking fundamentals (VPCs, subnets, routing, DNS, load balancing, TLS, VPNs, secure connectivity). Expert-level Terraform with module design and state management at scale. Hands-on CI/CD pipeline experience (Jenkins, GitHub Actions). Strong Kubernetes expertise operating production clusters at scale. Production service mesh experience, ideally Istio. Linux, containers, and scripting/systems language fluency (Python, Go, Bash). Production mindset with failure mode and cost awareness. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Bachelor's in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent.
