Relativity Space is building rockets and advanced manufacturing capabilities to serve commercial and scientific space missions. The Interplanetary Sciences Program is developing a philanthropically funded Mars science orbiter targeted for launch in 2028. This Staff HITL Engineer role owns the end-to-end design, build, and operation of the integrated hardware-in-the-loop test environment that validates the spacecraft's avionics, flight software, payloads, and interfaces before flight.
You will architect and implement a comprehensive HITL capability spanning physical hardware integration (rack fabrication, avionics installation, harness routing, load emulation) and software automation (simulation, data acquisition, control infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines). Your work enables the spacecraft team to test early, continuously, and with real hardware throughout development and into final integration and test.
Key responsibilities include designing the HITL bench from scratch, building software fixturing and automated test frameworks that exercise flight software against representative hardware, developing CI and regression infrastructure that continuously validates system changes, and debugging integrated failures across hardware and software boundaries. You will own this capability end to end, understanding what each test proves and ensuring results are credible. You'll work closely with propulsion, avionics, flight software, and payload teams, serving as the technical foundation that allows the program to move quickly with confidence.
This is a hands-on role requiring expertise in hardware integration, test automation, embedded systems, and systems-level debugging. You'll take ownership of a mission-critical capability and see your work directly enable a Mars science mission.
