Aurora is building autonomous vehicle technology to transform transportation and logistics. The Hardware Reliability team ensures the robustness and dependability of hardware systems in Aurora's autonomous vehicle stack, validating components to meet automotive standards under demanding field conditions.
In this Staff-level role, you will lead hardware reliability testing and validation for automotive power and compute hardware. You'll oversee the design and implementation of comprehensive reliability testing protocols, including stress tests, environmental tests (HALT/HASS, thermal cycling, vibration, humidity), and failure mode analysis. You'll analyze failure data to identify root causes and drive corrective actions, creating detailed reports for stakeholders on reliability findings and hardware improvement recommendations.
You'll collaborate across electrical, firmware, mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure system-wide reliability and drive continuous improvement in hardware design processes to meet automotive standards like ISO 26262 and ISO 16750. A key part of this role is mentoring junior reliability engineers and promoting adoption of reliability best practices across the organization.
Required: Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of hardware reliability engineering experience, ideally in automotive, aerospace, or heavy-duty vehicle industries. Strong expertise in reliability testing methodologies, failure analysis techniques (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone), and hardware design principles. Experience collaborating with firmware teams and understanding firmware-hardware interactions. Proficiency with data analysis tools (Python, JMP) and reliability tools (Weibull++, dFMEA). Experience with hardware requirements and demonstrated leadership in root cause analysis.
Desirable: Knowledge of automotive safety standards (ISO 26262, ISO 16750), experience with automotive electronics/ECU or compute hardware (thermal, power, connector reliability), supplier quality/reliability management (PPAP, corrective actions), test automation infrastructure, and prior mentoring experience.
