Scale's International Public Sector team is building AI solutions to address critical challenges facing governments worldwide. The team focuses on creating custom AI applications, generating high-quality training data for custom LLMs, and providing upskilling and advisory services.
As a Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer (Forward Deployed), you will serve as the lead technical strategist for public sector engagements, converting ambiguous mission requirements into robust architectural roadmaps and guiding onsite implementation. You'll architect fundamental frameworks for production-grade AI applications, setting standards for how interactive UIs, backend systems, and AI models integrate at scale to deliver reliable outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading technical strategy for public sector clients and converting requirements into architectural roadmaps
- Architecting production-grade AI application frameworks with integrated UIs, backends, and models
- Guiding cloud infrastructure evolution to ensure security, scalability, and system integrity
- Directing development of core platforms and shared services for diverse global use cases
- Partnering with cross-functional leadership to steer technical roadmap and mentor senior/junior staff
- Bridging field insights with core platform development to create reusable patterns
Ideal candidates have a Master's or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent deep industry experience architecting complex distributed systems. You should have 10+ years of full-stack expertise across Python, Node.js, and React, with proven track records designing high-scale architectures on Kubernetes and global cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP). Expert ability to design production-grade ecosystems with world-class standards for security and scalability is essential. Extensive experience deploying sophisticated solutions in complex, high-security client environments and building LLM-driven solutions is required. You should be a self-driven leader capable of resolving extreme ambiguity, mentoring senior staff, and setting technical vision. Experience with asynchronous workflows and documentation-first cultures is valued.
Nice-to-have qualifications include prior startup experience as CTO or founding engineer, forward-deployed engineer roles, cross-functional operations experience, and Arabic proficiency.
