Mattermost is seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer to drive technical architecture and strategy for its core web platform, which serves defense, intelligence, security, and critical infrastructure sectors. The role involves defining and owning the technical direction across Go backend and React/TypeScript frontend systems, setting organization-wide standards for AI-agentic engineering workflows, and leading internal tooling and testing infrastructure strategy.
Key responsibilities include: architecting and scaling the core web platform across multiple engineering teams; establishing best practices for AI coding agent adoption (Claude Code, Cursor) at the org level while maintaining accountability for correctness and security; owning testing strategy and quality standards across frontend and backend; driving REST and WebSocket API design decisions grounded in networking fundamentals; partnering with security, compliance, and product leadership on strategic technical initiatives for government and enterprise customers; mentoring senior engineers; and contributing to the open-source codebase.
Required qualifications: senior full-stack development experience in Go and React or comparable stack with proven ability to own complex systems end-to-end; experience designing and owning distributed systems or high-availability service architecture at scale; REST and WebSocket API design experience with solid networking fundamentals; PostgreSQL and relational database expertise including schema design and query optimization; daily fluency with AI coding agents with judgment about when to trust vs. override output; demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams without formal authority; experience mentoring senior engineers; and comfort operating in regulated, high-compliance environments.
Nice-to-have experience includes prior staff/principal/technical lead roles, open-source project maintenance, familiarity with compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, ITAR), scaling engineering practices across growing organizations, and background in defense or critical infrastructure products.
