Carbon Direct is seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer to design, build, and scale systems that help organizations achieve their climate and carbon management goals. In this role, you'll work across the full technology stack—frontend, backend, databases, and deployment—partnering with product, science, and business teams to deliver AI-augmented software solutions.
You'll own features end-to-end, from discovery and prototyping through launch, iteration, and scaled adoption. Your responsibilities include designing and deploying full-stack features, building systems from the ground up, rapidly prototyping to test hypotheses, hardening validated prototypes for enterprise scale, making sound architectural decisions with limited precedent, shipping code to production regularly, shaping engineering practices as a senior voice, and supporting developer experience for AI-empowered contributors from non-engineering backgrounds.
The ideal candidate brings significant professional experience as a full-stack engineer with depth across all layers of the stack. You have a proven track record building systems from scratch and operating them at scale, with strong judgment on multi-layer distributed systems tradeoffs. You're an innovator who uses agentic engineering tools daily and has deployed AI-augmented systems to production. You're a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, able to scope problems, and biased toward shipping viable solutions over waiting for perfect specs. You can hit the ground running and contribute meaningfully within days. You have strong product instincts and commercial awareness, care about what you're building and why, and collaborate effectively with design, product, science, and business stakeholders.
Bonus qualifications include experience in regulated environments (ISO 27001, SOC 2), building developer platforms, internal tooling, or guardrails that enable non-specialists to contribute code safely, and prior experience in carbon, climate, or energy sectors. The role operates in an ISO 27001 and SOC 2 compliant environment where access control, data protection, and auditability are built in from the first commit.
