Salary: USD 174,986 - 209,983 / annual
Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to join the DataViz squad within the Grafana Frontend group. The DataViz squad is responsible for building and evolving Grafana's visualization capabilities, enabling users to visualize their observability data in intuitive and insightful ways.
You will lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout, including gathering user feedback and measuring impact. You'll mentor and collaborate with other engineers, raising the engineering bar through code review, design feedback, and pairing on complex problems. You'll participate in on-call rotations for the services you help build and serve as a force multiplier during incident response and post-incident learning.
Recent projects include externalizing core visualizations for independent releases, building GraphViz for relationship and architecture visualization, improving test coverage and visual regression testing, and refreshing the look and feel of existing visualizations like Table and Gauge. The tech stack is primarily TypeScript, React, uPlot, and eCharts.
You'll provide technical support in customer escalations, identify areas of friction, and represent the team's work across squads through design proposals, demos, and roadmap discussions. The company invests heavily in developer productivity, offering access to modern AI coding assistants (your choice of tools within security guidelines) and frontier models like GPT-6, Claude Opus, and Gemini, with company-funded usage budgets.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Technical leadership experience: solid background leading teams through projects, mentoring engineers, and serving as a force multiplier
- Strong communication skills in fully remote, asynchronous environments
- Demonstrated responsibility for operating software in production: on-call experience, production support, reliability focus, incident response
- Ability to tackle complex engineering problems with minimal supervision; self-starter mindset
- User focus and pragmatism: break complex problems into short feedback loops (analyze, design, MVP, learn, iterate)
- Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks with a practical, real-world delivery mindset
- Active engagement with the Grafana community
- Intellectual curiosity, transparency, bias toward action, and collaborative team orientation
BONUS:
- Open-source contribution or maintainership experience
- Active interest in observability (metrics, logs, traces) and experience with Grafana, Prometheus, or similar platforms
- On-call experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or Tempo in production or homelab
