LaunchDarkly is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to own the quality and consistency of core flag management surfaces—the flag list, flag targeting, segments, and contexts pages where customers spend most of their time. These surfaces evolved across multiple teams over years; the mandate is to bring them into one coherent, consistent experience.
You will work from the product backward, understanding diverse user personas: platform engineers standardizing flag hygiene across hundreds of services, product managers checking live flags before customer calls, release managers running staged rollouts under change control, support engineers tracing customer variations, and developers delegating flag work to AI agents for review. Each persona needs different things from the same screens; your job is to understand their workflows deeply enough to identify which friction is worth fixing.
Your levers are the shared frontend foundations: the design system (LaunchPad), interaction primitives that entire classes of workflows depend on, and platform capabilities pulled in from upstream libraries. When new capability lands in the component library, you translate it into product improvements and drive adoption.
Key responsibilities include: owning consistency and quality of core flag surfaces across teams; setting the agenda from customer evidence and usage signals rather than taste; stewarding LaunchPad as a product lever (not just a component destination), including adoption, migration, and enforcement; tracking upstream library and platform capability and closing gaps between what's available and what the product uses; building shared interaction primitives (tables, filtering, sorting, comparison, bulk change) and migrating the product onto them; prototyping and landing patterns for hybrid human-agent workflows where changes are explained, reviewed, and trusted; and serving as the first line of defense on frontend performance for high-traffic surfaces.
You will influence through technical depth and product knowledge rather than formal authority. Design and product are your closest partners, alongside the Enterprise and Foundation Feature Management teams who build on what you own. This is a forward-looking role where you prototype patterns that become foundational capabilities others inherit.
